Excitement is in the air with students starting back at school and getting to know new friends and new teachers...GOOD LUCK to all RVC athletes who are trying out for their school teams. For tryouts remember that your attitude and coachability are sometimes as valuable to coaches as your skill level and height. Smile lots, hustle everywhere, listen hard and do your best.

Chris Knoop, a coach with our RVC 18U men's team, is working with a Regina company Wellness on the Way which focuses on personal training - and will even come on site to work with you. It is also the only training facility in Saskatchewan certified to work with youth. Contact Chris to learn more about training programs designed especially for volleyball players.
A number of our RVC teams did some traveling this spring to compete against the best teams in Western Canada and beyond - gaining valuable experience and learning about where the bar is set for volleyball excellence. On May 14-17, our 17U and 18U men's Cougars teams, along with our 18UW Rebels team traveled to Abbottsford. Congrats to the 17U Cougars Gold team who won first place in Tier 4.
Then it was off to the Western Canadian 15U/16U nationals in Calgary. This event is the largest in Canada featuring about 250 teams from across Canada including the Territories. Our 15UM Cougars Gold team brought home silver medals from Division 1 Tier 4 and the 16UM Cougars tied for 5th in the tough Division 1 Tier 2. 15UW Ace wound up in Tier 2 in Division 2 with Cyclones competing in Tier 4 - and 16UW Impact ended up in 4th place in Div 2 Tier 3.
Our 14U teams (Voltage, Thunder and Cougars) competed at Volleyball Canada's Western Canadian Open Championships on May 7-9 in Saskatoon. Each team faced great competition from teams from BC, Alberta and Manitoba. It was a great tournament and a great season for all these young RVC athletes - and their coaches and parents.

Our players were not the only ones busy at the 14U Nationals - a number of our senior athletes took on the role of referee this year and it all came together at nationals. Refereeing is a great job - not only are you an integral part of the volleyball game but you get paid at the same time! If you want to find out more about becoming a volleyball referee - contact the SVA.
