   COACHING ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON ARE BEING FINALIZED...BUT CHECK OUT THE CALIBRE OF COACHES THAT WE HAD LAST YEAR - MOST OF WHOM ARE RETURNING FOR THE 2013 SEASON...

 

The following are the current coaching assignments for the 2012 competitive season. Not sure who they are? - Click on their names to find out more about them.
NOTE: Assignments (and the number of teams at any age division) may be changed right up to the team selection camps in November. You are strongly encouraged to talk with coaches at the selection camps (or beforehand if you see them around school games etc) - as we want this season to be a good fit for all involved.

There's alway room for more coaches! Please don't wait to be asked - contact us for more information about how you can get involved. RVC provides support for ongoing coaching development.

Sam Fong: Sam started coaching volleyball back in 1998 but his passion for the sport began as a player when he was 10 years old. He played throughout his high school and university years and is still playing every Sunday in the Regina Mixed Adult Volleyball league.  Sam is a NCCP Level 2 coach and is very passionate about volleyball.  Bonnie Pugsley: Has worked alongside Sam for many years and brings a wealth of experience as a player, coach and parent to her teams.

Guy Kerbrat: Has coached senior boys volleyball school teams for past 23 years - 18 years in Rouleau where his teams advanced to the provincials championships 15 times winning 2 Provincial Gold, 1 Provincial Silver and 2 Provincial Bronze. Guy then moved to coach at Winston Knoll and in 2009, his team won the  City Championship. Guy has coached 15U, 17U and 18U boys at the club level. In the summer, Guy is a head instructor at the Excel Volleyball Camp and the TnT Volleyball Camp.

Barry Leibel: Barry has been involved with RVC for about 10 years, and has coached in every age class.  He is working on his NCCP Level 3 coaching certification and for the past 5 years he has focused on the top 17/18U teams.  Barry has also coached the Campbell Collegiate senior women's team for the last five years. Barry is a former RVC board member and is the RVC Facilities Coordinator. Barry is fortunate to work alongside his wife, Renie Leibel on both the high school team and their RVC team.  Renie has her NCCP Level 2 coaching certification.

Larry Somers: Larry has coached both boys and girls' high school volleyball team at the junior and senior level. Larry is a Level 1 NCCP certified coach and a high school educator. He was a member of the U of R Cougars and has played competitively in the men's, mixed and beach league for many years at the provincial and national levels while traveling to many parts of the country. Larry has also coached football, basketball, track and hockey at the high school level. Working with Larry is John Kwong. John is a veteran coach of many sports with his NCCP Level 2 in volleyball. John has been a head coach with RVC and various school teams in the past and was also a Coach of the Year award winner in 1989 for his work with SIFC. After a few years focusing on soccer, we are fortunate that John has chosen to return to RVC.

Patrick Lys: Patrick has been involved in  volleyball at a competitive level for almost 20 years. He has coached with RVC for four years at the 15U and 16U age-class levels as well as coaching elementary and high school teams. Patrick is a former Vice-president of Regina Mixed Volleyball League. Patrick is a current RVC board member and our Tournament Coordinator. He will be sharing the coaching responsibilities with his wife, Lesley Koch who also has a long and successful career in volleyball.

Mike Boyd: Mike has coached at the 14U and 15U level as well as the Atomic Developmental program for nine years. He was pivotal in getting our men’s program going and led his 14U boys team to a provincial championship in 2007.  Mike also volunteers his time on the board of RVC and has served on the club’s board of directors for the past 9 years. He is a parent enthusiast who believes in team work and team spirit both with players on the court and with parents in the stands. Joining Mike on the bench is a veteran player and coach - his daughter, Keitlyn Boyd.

Donny Mah: Donny was an elite player with six years experience on provincial teams as well as three years with the U of R Cougars. He is in the process of completing his Level 3 NCCP certification. In addition to many years coaching with RVC, Donny has three years experience as a summer camp instructor and has also been a beach volleyball coordinator. Working with Donny again this year are Calvin Toffan and Donny's brother, Sandy Mah. Calvin has coached school teams for over 20 years has worked with RVC athletes for 5 years. Calvin played four years at U of R received the RVC Nicholson Award for his excellence as a coach. Sandy May also has been involved with volleyball for over 30 years and has been coached at the provincial, high school and elementary levels.

Marian McCormick: Marian brings a long history of coaching - in various sports - to RVC. After moving from Ontario, where she was a member of the U of Waterloo volleyball team, she started her coaching career in Saskatchewan - three years as head coach of the women’s team at STI (SIAST) in Moose Jaw. Since then she has coached every age from elementary school teams up to 18U. Marian also contributes to our sport through her position on the SVA board of directors, volunteering on the RVC board and helping with the club website and other admin tasks. Joining Marian again this year are two former RVC athletes, Monique Paproski and Elliot James who bring their many years of volleyball experience to the team as well as their passion and enthusiasm.

Charlene Callander: Charlene demonstrates her passion for volleyball in a number of ways. She has coached a number of sessions of our RVC Atomic program and has volunteered this year to again take on our RVC 14U boys team. Charlene is also a member of the board of directors of the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association. So she is not only helping our athletes, but is committed to volleyball province-wide. Working with Charlene again will be Scott Einarson.

Ryan Decosse: Ryan is a former setter with the University of Regina Cougar volleyball team. He received a number of awards for his contribution to his team and is continuing his contribution to our sport by turning to coaching. This is Ryan's second year coaching with RVC and is joined this year by another former player and veteran coach, Lindsay Isaac.

Brittany Galambos - RVC was fortunate to have Brittany coach the 14U girls in 2009 and the 13U girls in 2010, which was the same year she was awarded the RVC Performance Coach of the Year. Prior to that, she coached the Junior boys team in Leask. Brittany is a lover of all sports but volleyball is her favourite - and she loves coach the younger age classes.

Jakaeden Frizzel: Jakaeden has devoted a lot of gym time to volleyball through his seven years as a player and as a volleyball official at tournaments and championships throughout Saskatchewan. As a player, Jakaeden was Regina High School City Champion in 2010 and Provincial Champions in 2007. Making the move to the coaching ranks, Jakaeden is coaching the Junior Boys team at Campbell Collegiate - and we're pleased to welcome him as a coach to our own program. Working alongside Jakaedan, is Megan Rumpel who brings her own volleyball experience to the team.

Jason Brossart: Jason has been an assistant coach with RVC for a couple of years and is taking on the challenge this year of leading one of our 16U women's team. Assisting Jason is Amy Eklund, a former club player and someone who continues to stay involved with our sport.


Jeff Maystruck: Jeff has been involved in the volleyball world for many years. He competed on the Winston Knoll team and is now in his 4th year of coaching the senior boy's team there with Guy Kerbrat. Jeff joined RVC three years ago and will lead our 15 / 16U men's team in 2012.

Jon BuzilaJon was a member of the University of Regina Men’s Volleyball team from 1982-1986. Prior to that he was a bronze medalist in the 1A High School provincial championship.  In 2010 he started coaching club volleyball with RVC as an assistant coach for the 15U mens program and in 2011 assisted with the 16U mens team. Working with Jon is U of Regina head coach, Greg Barthel. Greg and his U of R program have been key to the success of our RVC men's program and provide an invaluable contribution to the players he coaches.
